The lens of the eye needs to be crystal
clear for anyone to see, but there are cases in which this lens can become
cloudy. This cloudiness is known as a cataract and while annoying and impairing
of your vision it is good to know that there are ways of correcting their
formations.
When a cataract first develops it is of a
yellowish colour and fairly transparent with respect to the development of
myopia, but as time goes on this will become more opaque and leads to the
perception of blue colours for both the patient as well as those who see the
cataract.
There are a number of known causes for
cataracts including things like old age as well as long-term exposure or over
exposure to radiation and ultraviolet rays. Furthermore things like
hypertension and diabetes are also known to cause cataracts to develop. This is
usually as a result of the denaturation of the proteins in the lens of the eye.
This can also happen as a result of an accident to the eye as well as the head
and those who work in the flying profession also tend to be more likely to
develop cataracts as compared to those who work on the ground.
These cataracts can be full or even partial
while at the same time they can also be progressive, stationary or even hard or
soft. With so many potentials associated with cataracts, the manner in which
the surgery will be performed to correct this will depend on your particular
circumstance if it is at all even possible. While in most cases cataracts can
be removed by surgery, this is not always the case as there are some occasions
in which removal would be impossible due to potential for complications
associated with the performance of the procedure.
The surgical procedure involves the
incision into the eye and the removal of the lens. While there are many
variations to this, in general this is the procedure in its simplest form. In
which case, the patient will have to wear glasses for the remainder of his or
her life and that still will not guarantee one’s ability to see or focus. With
all of the research being focused into cataract repair, it is just a matter of
time that people all over the world will no longer have to deal with the
possibility of developing them. For now though make sure that you wear proper
sunglasses and stay healthy.
